about

Eyes on Me was composed by Nobuo Uematsu and featured as the theme song of the popular video game Final Fantasy VIII.

Within the Final Fantasy VIII game, Laguna Loire, a Galbadian soldier, fell in love with Julia Heartily, a hotel lounge singer. Shy and clumsy, Laguna finds it difficult to actually tell Julia what he feels. The only thing that he can do is to frequent the lounge so that he can watch her perform. Julia felt the same way, but Laguna’s uneasiness made it difficult for her to let him know.
Until one night, Laguna finally decided to approach Julia and just took his chances. The shy guy’s action was rewarded; the two finally had the chance to tell each other about their feelings. Julia said, “I want to write a song that conveys my feelings for you.” Then “Eyes on Me” was written. After that night, Laguna was called away for a mission and the two never saw each other again.

Laguna and Julia's love resounded in Squall Leonhart and Rinoa Heartilly's romance, significant for Julia is Rinoa's mother and Laguna is Squall's father. Hence their failed romance is fulfilled through their children.
